Q. The only way to improve safety on our roads is to give much stricter punishments for driving offences. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In today's world, safety on our roads has become a hot topic of discussion. We see in the news or experience many driving violations in our daily lives, such as drunk driving, speeding and failure to obey traffic rules, which lead to serious consequences. It is believed that giving harsh penalties to people who commit these offences, is the only way to improve safety. I partially agree with it as proper guidance and training can also help to increase road safety.

To inaugurate with, the penalties for offenses such as drunk driving, speeding and failure to obey traffic rules should be increased. Discipline is the key to running smoothly on the roads. If there were no penalties and fines, drivers would take the rules and regulations on the roads for granted. For example, in Canada, failure to obey traffic rules results in a fine, and points are awarded for serious driving violations. Therefore, all these fines and penalties help the authorities control transport and road safety.

On the other hand, people should be able to receive proper guidance and training during their studies. They need to know how to drive safely. To do this, drivers should be given classes that explain to them how important it is to drive safely and follow traffic rules. For instance, in some countries, in  extremely high-traffic areas, drivers are provided with extra classes for safe driving which helps them to enhance their driving skills. Thus, information regarding rules and regulations and proper training can also help to drive safely.

In conclusion, I would say that while stricter penalties are needed to ensure road safety, proper training and guidance can also play a key role in achieving this.
