Q. Some people think that the (government should provide (assistance) to (all kinds of artists) including painters, musicians, and poets. However, other people think that (this is a waste of money). Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In recent decades, more people have called on governments to support artists by providing cash assistance, while others argue that government budgets should be allocated to citizens in need.  In this essay I will consider both points of view.

The main reason for providing certain monetary incentives to artists is that creating a work of art, such as a painting, a song or a poem, requires an enormous amount of time and effort.  For example, Vincent Van Goh, one of the world's greatest artists, devoted his entire life to painting.  Each of his masterpieces took more than 3 years to create, while he received no income during the entire period until he found a buyer for his works of art. It is undeniable that artists always struggle to earn enough income to support their lives.  Therefore, it is fair to demand that governments provide adequate financial assistance to these artists.

On the contrary, there are a staggering number of people who believe that governments should use their budgets wisely, that is, distribute their funds to people living in poverty.  Poor citizens often lack food and are homeless.  These people are in dire need, so they should receive financial assistance before the artists.  Moreover, many people complain about limited resources in their health care systems.  Once they are diagnosed with a serious illness, such as cancer, they have to wait in line for years to access public health services.

In conclusion, financial assistance plays a key role in promoting the development of art in the country, however, there are many citizens living in poverty who require help from society.  From my point of view, I largely agree that it can be wasteful for the government to allocate significant amounts of funds to support artists.
