Q. It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

History plays an important role in children's learning process. While I agree that learning local history is important, I also argue that world history should not be overlooked for the benefits it brings to children.

On the one hand, learning local history pays dividends for a child's growth. Facts and figures from textbooks can help these young people pay tribute to former soldiers and ancestors who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence. Students can also learn about their background and culture through history classes, which reminds them of their roots and promotes a well-rounded education. For example, in India, history lessons are included in the curriculum at all levels of school, and this helps instill in young people a love for their country. Needless to say, history has become an important part of the education system in India.

On the other hand, it is wrong to neglect the teaching of world history. As the world has become more open, today's global citizens must learn more about other countries and regions in order to assimilate into the global community. In other words, it entails a feeling of patriotism for the place and connects the soul with the soil. For example, people tend to die to protect their unique culture and heritage. They are proud of their history and want to pass these values on to their children. Learning about world history also broadens children's horizons and they can learn to accept different cultures and customs that exist, making life more interesting.

To conclude, in today's society, children need to develop a passion for both local and world history. There should be no comparison between the two subject areas as they contribute equally to the overall development of the child.
