Q.
Some people believe that people who read books can develop more imagination and language skills than those who prefer to watch TV. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is believed that books are better than television in developing communication skills and imagination. I fully support the belief that readers are able to better develop linguistic and imaginative skills.
In addition, books involve mental processes, unlike television, which involves visual perception of information. Vision and visual imagination are different, so when reading we use certain areas of the cerebral cortex that influence and develop our cognitive processes. Moreover, the method of translating symbols into pictures or clips in our mind improves neural connections, which is a kind of mental training for our brain, and also improves connections between neurons, which in turn is an important element in the functioning of our brain. For instance, a recent magnetic resonance imaging study from Harvard University found that people who read have more active areas of the brain than those who like to watch TV.
To conclude, as can be seen from the examples, it is clear that due to the volume of books and the specific feature that affects thought processes, readers have a more obvious advantage over television and can improve language skills and imagination.
