Q. Some employers are giving more value on hiring people with good social skills apart from good qualifications. Do you agree or disagree that social skills are just as crucial as good qualifications for success at work?

In this contemporary era, there has been a growing trend among employers to hire people with excellent social skills. In fact, some employers place more emphasis on social skills than academic qualifications. Some people, however, argue that a person's educational qualifications should be the main deciding factor in the hiring process. I disagree with this view because in our modern era, social skills are essential for survival in the workplace.

To inaugurate with, there are many reasons why companies prefer employees with good social skills. First, thanks to globalization, local businesses now have to deal with multinationals. Good communication and negotiation skills help improve trade relations. Thus, in order to expand their business around the world, companies are hiring people with good social skills. For example, there is a thriving call center industry in India right now. If anyone wants to find a job in this sector, a good command of English is required.

On the other hand, there is another reason to hire employees with good social skills. The various departments of modern organizations are interconnected, and thus good rapport between these departments is essential for improved productivity and smoother functioning. For example, in many enterprises, the IT department must work with the HR department and the marketing department. In this situation, employees' lack of good communication skills can lead to conflict and chaos.

Although, there is an important argument against the emphasis on social skills. The basis of a successful business is the intellectual strength of its employees. You can't make great products with social skills. This requires technical and academic knowledge. 

In conclusion, educational qualifications are definitely important and must be considered when hiring employees. However, social skills are becoming equally important these days. And in some areas that require active interaction with people, social skills are more important than academic skills.
