Q. Some people believe that individuals can do nothing to help improve the environment, but only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

These days, environmental issues have become the main topic of discussion among people and governments. Many people argue that environmental protection can only be achieved by governments or large business conglomerates. I strongly disagree with this opinion, as small movements can have a big impact. Also, any individual efforts to protect the environment will be highly appreciated and supported by the public, and this will increase the momentum.

To inaugurate with, most people think that individual effort is useless, it has a big impact on the big picture. For example, in the waste management process, separating household waste items will only take a few minutes for the person who sends the waste to government agencies, but it has more benefits for government agencies as it is easier for them to handle properly separated waste. If everyone thinks there is nothing they can do, there will be no positive shift. Therefore, it is important that everyone does their best to protect the environment.

Furthermore, if well-publicized, individual efforts to protect the environment will inspire many more people to follow the same path. For example, in 2019, Mr. Hardeep, the district administrative officer of Hoshiarpur, took personal initiative to clean up public parks in the area and promoted a campaign on his Facebook page. After hearing about this, hundreds of local residents joined the movement and achieved its success. If this man had expected the government to take action, this would not have happened. This clearly shows that any small initiatives, especially those aimed at improving the environment, will receive tremendous support from the public if we properly publicize them.

In conclusion, the little effort that individuals make to protect the environment certainly matters and encourages others to contribute as well. In light of this, we can strongly oppose this argument, which underestimates individual effort, and clearly state that individual input is just as important as the support provided by governments and multinational companies.
