IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topics, Questions & Answers
IELTS Speaking Test
The IELTS speaking test can seem a little intimidating at first, especially since you will be taking the test to live in front of the examiner. Because of this lively format, it can be difficult to find topics to communicate freely with sample responses, but don't worry, we've got you covered. Before we practice my IELTS speaking topics, let's take a quick look at the Speaking Test and see how it works.
IELTS Speaking Test Format
IELTS Speaking Test has divided into three parts Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. In the first part of the speaking test, the examiner will ask 4-6 general questions on familiar topics. The examiner is expected to introduce her/himself first and ask for your name and then ask for proof of your identity.
Usually the examiner asks for your name first. He / she will then ask you to present your identity (in this case, your passport) and find out what you do, where you are from, and a few basic questions to start a conversation.
Before starting the test, you will have a short talk with the examiner when he introduces themself, confirms who you are, and verifies your identity. The questions they will ask you in this introductory word before testing are unmarked, but this is your first chance to make a good impression.
Remember to smile and do not be discouraged if the examiner does not seem very friendly to you. Maybe they want coffee because they haven't had a break for two hours, or they've just auditioned 20 previous candidates with such poor pronunciation they could barely understand. Remember, they are just doing their job.
Your speaking will not be as fluent as a spontaneous response, and you may actually lose grades. This is a test of your speaking skills, not your memory. Be confident in your skills and let your answers flow naturally.
Your fluency will also suffer if you overthink about your answers. The examiner is not trying to figure out how smart you are or if you can come up with smart answers, he just wants to hear you speak. Answer their questions in appropriate language and they will be happy.
What sometimes prompts candidates for IELTS Speaking Part 1 to "unusual", random questions, for example: "What do you think about Space?" Such questions seems so strange that they can stop a person. They either stumble and stutter when speaking of words, or they literally freeze if they can't figure out what to say.
IELTS Speaking Topics Part 1The list below contains not only questions but also shows conversational topics that examiners have asked people in the past. A great tip is to answer these IELTS speaking questions part 1 in the front of mirror or with a friend.
