IELTS Advanced Vocabulary Word List for Band 8 or 9

Advanced Vocabulary is a list of words that you can use in your IELTS Speaking & Writing to improve your IELTS band score.

You must use several advanced vocabulary words in the IELTS or PTE test. Many candidates find this a daunting task. My point is that you can memorize a lot of words, but if you can't use them in your sentences, it's not worth the effort.

Tips and Tricks to improve your Vocabulary

Read the newspaper daily, a decent English newspaper has more than enough words to learn. As an IELTS trainer, I try to ensure that all my students read the article on a daily basis. Trust me, it works wonders for many who have struggled to overcome 7 in IELTS.

The word meanings list is certainly useful, but not for everyone. For most participants, this long list will be overwhelming. Instead, think about just three to five words a day and try to use those words throughout the day. A small list of words is easier to understand and ultimately more enjoyable learning.

Learn "use of words" instead of meanings, knowing the meanings of words is good, but what's the point if you can't use them? Expand your vocabulary by looking for sentences with the word you intend to learn. Every time I see an unfamiliar word, instead of looking for meanings, I try to find sentences with that particular word.

Visualize the word, another problem here is the retention of words, most people tend to forget the word as soon as they learn it. This is because you are not inserting the picture into the word frame. Try to imagine this word to give you some perspective, "Labyrinth "means following a zigzag path, trying to imagine a zigzag road path in your mind.
